Knowledge of national natural resources
Basic knowledge is a first step towards a rational and accountable utilisation and conservation of
the forest. The researchers at the sites need detailed information on landscape and soil
characteristics, such as a soil map,
the use of non-timber forest products and timber characteristics. The TGP (Tropenbos Guyana
Programme) provides data and publishes guides, maps and databases. Such data are also of crucial
importance to for example the development of a National Protected Areas System.
