email: swich@greatapetrust.org Brief biography Serge A. Wich studied Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) feeding behaviour as an undergraduate in Sumatra, Indonesia. Subsequently he briefly studied feeding ecology of bonobos (Pan paniscus) in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the Max-Planck Insitute. After this he returned to Sumatra to study the structure and function of Thomas langur (Presbytis thomasi) male loud calls for his PhD which he obtained from Utrecht University in 2002. Currently he is studying cultural behaviour in two orangutan populations in Indonesia as a post-doc at Utrecht University. In addition he is setting up a database containing data from more than 30 years of orangutan reseach at the Ketambe research site in Sumatra. Main Research Interests Primate vocal behaviour and in particular the function of loud calls, sexual selection, orangutan behaviour, forest ecology, and conservation. Publications
