Registration form

6th Utrecht PhD Summerschool on Environmental Signaling

PhD summerschool, Utrecht University, the Netherlands, 22-24 August 2011

Registration Environmental Biology (course code M10)

Registration fee: The registration fee for the program will be EURO 250,= for Ph.D. students of the Graduate School Experimental Plant Sciences and EURO 300,= for others (Ph.D. students, post-docs and senior scientists).

The registration fee includes coffee/thee, lunch, and the dinner party on Tuesday evening in the botanical garden of the Utrecht University.

Registration: When you have registered before June 1, 2011, your registration is automatically accepted. Payment of the registration fee must be done before 15 June, 2011.

This year for the first time, we will make use of the registration system of the Utrecht Summerschool organization. Registration consists of a 2-step process:

  • First you have to create a user account at the Utrecht Summerschool by clicking here.
  • After that you will receive an e-mail and you will be able to register for the Summerschool. Please note that the name of the Summerschool is Environmental Signaling (course code M10).
  • this registration system is predominantly used for Summerschool courses at the Bsc and MSc level so some of the fields that you have to fill out seem somewhat odd (e.g. the request to fill out the expected date of graduation). Just fill out the compulsory fields and everything will be fine.
  • If you encounter difficulties with the registration, please e-mail C.M.J.Pieterse@uu.nl.

Student Housing

Student housing is arranged by the Utrecht Summerschool organization. Please follow their instructions for pick up of keys etc. See also http://www.utrechtsummerschool.nl.

Payment

Payments for the registration fee and accomodation in Student Housing Complex can be done by bank transfer or credit card. You will receive instructions for payment via the Utrecht Summerschool office.

Hotel accomodation

For those who prefer hotel accomodation we recommend Hotel Mitland (Arienslaan 1, 3573 PT Utrecht; Tel. +31302715824; E-mail info@mitland.nl; how to reach Hotel Mitland?: http://www.mitland.nl). Hotel rooms are approximately EURO 110,=  per night (incl. swimming pool, sauna and steam bath).

Abstract submission

Abstracts for the poster sessions and the parallel session on tuesday afternoon can be submitted by e-mail before June 15, 2011 to M.Proveniers@uu.nl. Please use the format shown below.

Our society depends on plants. Plants are the primary source for human and animal nutrition and dominate the natural landscape. Plants provide us with a broad range of commodities ranging from pharmaceuticals to building materials and offer an environment for leisure and recreation. In many ways plants are essential contributors to human well-being and health. Experimental Plant Sciences study the fundamental life processes of plants at different organisational levels, from molecules and cells to whole plants and ecosystems. The goal of these studies is to understand how plants develop and how they function in, and adapt to, continuously changing and often hostile environments. At the Institute of Environmental Biology, Utrecht University several research groups are studying various aspects of plant biology, often using Arabidopsis as a model. In this summerschool, an attractive program is provided in which experts in the field will highlight different aspects of environmental signaling in plants. Additional speakers will be selected from submitted abstracts. Moreover, there will be ample opportunity for discussions during the poster viewing sessions. The summerschool will not only have a focus on Arabidopsis research, also contributions based on other plant species are very much welcomed. The meeting is especially attractive for Ph.D. students, but the program will also be of interest for post-docs and senior scientist.
